System Configuration Utility in Windows 98
If you have Windows 98 or ME, you can use the System Configuration Utility. Simply click the 'Start' button on the taskbar, choose 'Run', type in 'MSCONFIG' and press ENTER.

By adding or removing checkmarks in this wonderful little utility program, you can perform every technique mentioned to this point, other than the Registry check.

Its a fantastic troubleshooting utility, check it out and learn how to use it to your advantage.

If you have Windows 98 or above, and you don't find the System Configuration Utility, add it from the Windows Setup tab in the 'Add/Remove Programs' utility in Control Panel.
